Cooking Isn’t Nearly as Hard as I Thought
But I didn’t learn these tricks until recently

I thought my mom taught me the basics of cooking but I didn’t really learn it until I worked in a meal kit production facility. We got to take the extra kits home and I had no idea how easy it was to cook something tasty, different, and new.
In my mom’s defence, her mom was a terrible cook. I do think both of them did the best they could with the resources available at the time, but they could have benefited from a few really easy tricks.
This is one of those occasions where I wish I could tell my mom, but she’s been gone over a decade now. I think she would have found these tips just as eye-opening as I did.
So for all you out there that might not know, here’s a couple of things to make your food taste better:
Pat the meat dry
Meat (not ground) is covered in goo. That goo spatters in the pan and changes the way the meat cooks. Pat the meat with paper towels to remove the goo, then cook as instructed.
I couldn’t believe how much of a difference this one step made. Steaks turn out crispy on the outside and moist inside. Chicken browns beautifully. Fish cooks evenly.
