I never thought I’d be the person to sit on a rocker on my porch and say, “Back in my day…” but here I am. Come on over to my porch and sit for a spell while I tell you about what we had, back in the day, starting with:

Pantyhose

Women were expected to cover their legs while working in offices and whatnot. No bare legs allowed. To help make sure we always had nylons, stores had stand after stand of them. Drugstores, department stores, even convenience stores had a small selection for emergencies.

The lingerie department had the largest selection, with fun prints for the younger crowd, thicker tights for winter wear, and degrees of sheerness for evening or office wear.a

Sure, pantyhose still exist, but the stand of them is tucked away in a corner now. The selection is minuscule compared to the dizzying array I remember.

While I’m talking about clothes, another item that’s gone the way of the dinosaur is:

Slips

Does anyone else remember slips? Full slips with spaghetti straps made of slinky fabric to wear under your dresses, half slips with lace trim for your skirts, and camisoles to wear under sheer blouses.

When I’m not writing my novel I’m writing rants and whatnot. Figured I might as well post them here.
