Crow’s Feet Writing Prompt #77
Vinyl Albums
Replaced by CDs only to come back again
One of my regrets is donating all of my vinyl albums.
I’d collected less than a hundred records and most of them were forgettable, but some were rarer, like a few Duran Duran remixes from Japan that I had to special order at a local record shop, one that’s long gone now.
Music was a big part of my life as a teen and young adult. I loved how different songs and bands could represent how I felt at any given time, and I enjoyed how different bands put sounds together to create new and interesting pieces.
I had a record player in my bedroom when I was a teen and I took it with me when I moved out of my parent’s house. But three moves later, I stored it in the basement and let it collect dust. After all, by then I hadn’t listened to records in a while.
Compact discs were on the rise back then. They were easier to store on shelves and stereos had convenient CD slots. Computers had slots for them too, back when home computers were still fairly rare. Cars were starting to have slots for them as well.
I didn’t replace my vinyl collection with CDs. Instead, I just bought new stuff on CD instead of vinyl. But somewhere along the way, I stopped buying music…
